Overview

The Center for the Developing Adolescent is founded on two principles: 1) A recognition that adolescence is a dynamic developmental period when young lives can spiral rapidly—in negative or positive directions along the life course trajectory. 2) A belief that advances in the scientific understanding of this unique developmental period hold great promise for informing practices, programs, and policies.

Vision

The main goal of the Center for the Developing Adolescent is to communicate the developmental science of adolescence to those who develop programs and policies that affect adolescents, those who work directly with adolescents, families of adolescents, and adolescents themselves.

A second goal is to identify the areas where insights from developmental science can indicate new areas for research and improve the precision, timing, and/or targets of programs and policies for adolescents. The Center will advance this goal by building strategic partnerships to promote developmental science-based initiatives in health, education, and youth development.
